Moving away from home for the first time can be a stressful thing. New environments with new rules are just the beginning. Dorm life can be both of those things.
My friend and I decorated her dorm room and came up with some fun tricks to make the space feel more like her own.
First, since you're not allowed to paint your dorm room, we used paint swatches to add color to the space. The result was super cute and it will come off just as easily as it went on (note: make sure you use stiky tac, or some other kind of removable adhesive).
Second, furniture... We all know that the desks and beds provided are not the most stylish or functional. However, with a few tricks, you can make good use of them. For instance, we raised the bed to provide enough space to put storage containers underneath. While we used old lumber pieces to raise the bed, you could use almost anything; get creative with all those past due library books!
Third, we were able to fit the dresser in the closet and then move the bookshelf (orginally part of the desk) to the end of the bed for a charming bookcase, thereby creating a room that's not only functional, but also more balanced.
Finally, we added a small sofa sleeper from Ikea (* best place to find affordable, space saving solutions). This allowed us to create an additional seating area, other than the bed, for friends and study partners.

A few other small touches really made the space come together. Pictures with string lights and yarn were a special request and really made Sonia feel at home.
Thanks for letting me help you out, Sonia! :)
